A UVA team featuring former Hexagon interns Roger Zhu and Caitlinh Nguyen has reached the final of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar District Cup Challenge. The team, which is mentored by Hexagon’s Director of Engineering, Nick Ford, designed a rooftop solar energy system for a five-block site in Arlington, Virginia, with the goal of creating a carbon neutral site. Their final design will be presented Solar and Energy Storage Southeast Conference in Atlanta, Ga. on April 19. Go Hoos!

Piney Creek Solar is an 80MW solar project located in Clover, VA. The Bay Branch Solar project is comprised of more than 22,000 PV panels with a nameplate capacity of 7.2 MW DC. The project will generate over 12.5 million kWh of renewable electricity each year, equivalent to the annual electricity usage of 1,250 homes.
