about us

Experienced. Balanced. Agile.

Over the past 13 years, the principals of Hexagon Energy have developed and financed over 6,500 MW of energy, representing over $1 billion USD in invested capital. We bring this experience and insight to every project.

We pursue the best opportunities across all new energy technologies, building a diverse and balanced portfolio. Our team has developed projects, large and small, from a multitude of energy sources in the U.S. and abroad.

We are a sophisticated development team with the skill to lead projects from start to finish. Our size and experience provide flexibility coupled with dedicated, personal service.

what we do

Hexagon Energy Develops Projects Across Six New Energy Solutions.

HexagonEnergy_SolarEnergy.jpg

SOLAR

Solar energy is the fastest growing source of energy in the U.S. Having developed more than 650 MW of solar energy, the Hexagon team brings mature and efficient development services to underserved markets and niche opportunities.

WIND

With roots in the wind industry dating back to 2002, the Hexagon team has developed over 6,000 megawatts of wind energy. Hexagon is targeting emerging technologies, sites, and approaches that can yield higher production at lower cost.

HexagonEnergy_WaveEnergy.jpg

WAVE

Plentiful, consistent, and predictable, wave energy has the ability to provide renewable base load power to some of the world’s most populated regions. Hexagon Energy is planning early development projects that capitalize on strong government incentives and unique geographic constraints.

BIOMASS

The world’s oldest source of renewable energy, biomass power (or biopower) generation is expected to grow more than fivefold over the next 25 years. Hexagon is exploring advances in technology that are creating new opportunities for biopower.

GEOTHERMAL

Geothermal energy has the ability to provide consistent base load power with a small footprint. Because of this, geothermal power is forecasted to be one of the fastest growing sources over the next 25 years. Hexagon is exploring new applications for geothermal power, both in the US and abroad.

ENERGY STORAGE

Energy storage provides the ability to better manage our power supply, promoting a more stable and efficient electrical infrastructure. Energy storage includes a wide array of technical solutions deployed alone or in combination with energy sources such as solar and wind. Hexagon Energy is currently pursuing both integrated and standalone energy storage projects.

how we do it

Our development process is anchored in our belief in transparency and collaboration.

We engage all stakeholders—from landowners to utilities—early in the process and work in the open where all can see our progress.

STEP 1: SITE SELECTION

A successful solar project begins with a great site. From the start, we work with private landowners and communities across the U.S. to find select locations for new solar projects. We combine rigorous GIS analysis and friendly, face-to-face meetings with landowners, community officials, and local utilities to thoroughly screen our sites, choosing those that will generate positive and enduring benefits for everyone involved.

 STEP 2: DESIGN

Successful solar projects continue with thoughtful, locally-minded design. We begin the process very early, developing preliminary project layouts and reviewing them with landowners and community officials. We use this early feedback to inform a final design that respects the community while also meeting the needs of the utility.

STEP 3: PERMITTING

As you might imagine, the development of a solar energy facility requires careful coordination with a range of local, state, and national agencies and organizations on everything from environmental compliance to electrical code to historic preservation. From the start of the project, we work closely with local and state officials to carefully plan the site.

STEP 4: INTERCONNECTION

Successful solar projects must also reliably and economically deliver the electricity they generate to the ultimate buyer. Hexagon uses GIS analysis, in-house modeling, and historical experience to site and design projects that integrate with local and regional electrical grids. During the interconnection process, our engineers work closely with utilities to develop creative and cost-effective interconnection solutions that increase reliability and safety while reducing cost.

STEP 5: POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENT

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or other off-take agreement is the financial backbone of a solar project. We work with utilities and corporations to secure long-term, mutually beneficial contracts that provide stable and secure revenue for the lifespan of the project.
