Today, Hexagon Energy, an independent energy development firm focused on utility-scale and community solar projects, and Cypress Creek Renewables, the leading solar developer in the U.S., celebrated the commissioning of the Bay Branch Solar facility in Beaufort County, North Carolina. Hexagon partnered with Cypress Creek to develop the solar photovoltaic (PV) project under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Duke Energy. Hexagon was responsible for all aspects of development, including site selection, PPA negotiation, interconnection, and permitting. Cypress Creek was responsible for the financing, engineering, procurement, and construction of the project.

“Hexagon is very pleased to have achieved this significant milestone for Bay Branch as part of our Southeastern solar portfolio,” said Matt Hantzmon, CEO of Hexagon Energy. “We want to thank Beaufort County, our local landowner, Duke Energy, and Cypress Creek for their support and collaboration on this project.  Hexagon emphasizes stakeholder cooperation in all our projects and Bay Branch Solar is a shining example of that.”

The Bay Branch Solar project is comprised of more than 22,000 PV panels with a nameplate capacity of 7.2 MW DC. The project will generate over 12.5 million kWh of renewable electricity each year, equivalent to the annual electricity usage of 1,250 homes.

“We are proud to join Hexagon Energy in commissioning Bay Branch Solar, North Carolina’s newest solar farm,” said Noah Hyte, Vice President of Strategy and Origination, Cypress Creek Renewables. “The solar industry in North Carolina has created thousands of jobs and supports communities across the state with new sources of tax revenue. Projects including Bay Branch Solar are a part of the industry’s success story.”
