Project Geologist
POSITION SUMMARY
Hexagon Energy, a clean energy development company specializing in geothermal, solar, and battery energy storage projects, is seeking a Project Geologist to support its geothermal development efforts.
As a Project Geologist, you will support Hexagon’s development efforts by de-risking and advancing the maturity of geothermal projects. This will involve the integration and collection of new geoscience data, conceptual model construction and maintenance, field work, and cross-team organization to advance exploration efforts.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the aggregation, management, curation, and data mining of critical geoscience records, well data, and prospect information.
Develop and refine conceptual models of geothermal systems by synthesizing geothermally relevant datasets, including geophysical and geochemical data, remote sensing imagery, well and drilling logs, and surface/subsurface geologic information.
Support the planning, execution, and data acquisition phases of geophysical surveys and studies in tandem with the Senior Geologist.
Conduct comprehensive field mapping to generate detailed geologic maps of lithology, structural geology, geomorphology, mineralization, and hydrothermal alteration.
Conduct field collection of geochemical samples as needed to support ongoing exploration activities.
Act as the primary owner of conceptual models for active geothermal reservoirs. Collaborate cross-functionally with geochemistry, reservoir engineering, and operations teams to optimize asset value while adhering to corporate standards.
Provide essential geoscience expertise and conceptual model data to support business development initiatives and regulatory permitting packages.
Design and model subsurface well trajectories, including directional drilling plans. Partner closely with drilling operations, project managers, and engineers to ensure the successful execution of drilling campaigns.
Manage the life cycle of various geothermal prospects, guiding them from initial evaluation through reservoir testing.
Formulate exploration and development strategies aligned with organizational objectives. Deliver actionable recommendations that weigh potential upside against associated risks and uncertainties.
Foster a dynamic exploration approach by generating innovative concepts, evaluating multiple working hypotheses, and assessing the viability and risk profiles of new prospects.
Engage and coordinate with internal stakeholders across Interconnection/Engineering, Execution, Development, Commercial, and Geothermal teams to drive exploration and drilling projects forward.
An ideal candidate is/has:
Intellectually agile and curious, with superb analytical skills
Highly organized
Self-motivated and resourceful
High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations and new challenges
An entrepreneurial spirit; flexibility and multi-disciplinary ability; comfort with risk and the unknown, ability to see the endgame, ideate, and figure out how to get there. This is especially pertinent in advancing our enhanced geothermal systems projects
Not afraid to ask questions or ask for help when needed
Strong research and writing skills
Direct technical understanding of industry and major industry drivers
Communication skills-ability to converse with laymen, elected officials, and experts with equal ease
Courage to address difficult items first rather than burying them
Results oriented
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science or Engineering, Geology, or other industry relevant field.
3+ years experience in geothermal resource evaluation
Extensive knowledge of geothermal energy systems
Strong background in geothermal resource evaluation, development, and management
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret magnetotelluric (MT), seismic, geochemical, gravity-magnetic, well log, structural, and stress regime data
Experience with QGIS or ArcGIS software suite
Experience with Seequent software suite, particularly Oasis Montaj and Leapfrog, or similar industry standard geovisualization software
Demonstrated ability to work effectively/collaboratively in dynamic, cross-functional teams and influence others through work ethic and positive attitude to accomplish stretch goals
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience with reservoir modeling software
Familiarity with industry-relevant machine-learning approaches
Familiarity with Python
