Hexagon Energy is proud to share that TerraForm Power has officially announced the acquisition of the Steward Creek Solar project—a 1.56 GW solar development in Lee County, Illinois—that Hexagon originally developed.
Steward Creek Solar ranks among the largest solar photovoltaic projects currently under development in the United States.
“This landmark project highlights our ability to deliver renewable energy at scale during a period of unprecedented power demand and grid constraints,” said Mark Noyes, CEO of TerraForm Power, underscoring the strategic importance of Steward Creek in advancing large-scale clean power generation.
Hexagon Energy CEO Matt Hantzmon also commented on the milestone, noting that Steward Creek is a flagship project for Hexagon and that selecting a partner with the experience and capabilities to bring such a large project to fruition was a key priority.
The project is planned in two phases, with phase one expected to begin construction in 2027 and reach commercial operations by 2029, and phase two expected to follow in 2028 with commercial operations in 2030. Each phase is anticipated to generate approximately 1.3 GWh of clean energy annually once completed.
This announcement highlights Hexagon Energy’s ongoing role in developing significant clean energy infrastructure across the U.S., and reflects our commitment to accelerating the nation’s transition to sustainable power generation.
