Director of Origination & Offtake

POSITION SUMMARY

Hexagon Energy is seeking an experienced origination professional to lead offtake commercialization across our western U.S. Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) portfolio. The Director of Origination & Offtake will own customer-facing deal execution with hyperscale data center operators, large corporate energy buyers, and load-serving utilities from first contact through executed agreements. This is a high-autonomy, high-leverage seat: the successful candidate will convert Hexagon's development pipeline into contracted revenue, including early-stage commercial instruments (MOUs, LOIs, term sheets, and framework agreements) structured to support project and corporate financing. This role is central to Hexagon's growth strategy and offers significant visibility with executive leadership and marquee counterparties.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Originate, structure, and negotiate offtake arrangements for Hexagon's geothermal portfolio, including PPAs, tolling agreements, capacity contracts, framework/master agreements, and behind-the-meter or co-location structures for data center customers.

  • Lead early-stage commercial instruments (MOUs, LOIs, and similar) designed with sufficient definition and durability to support due diligence in equity and debt financing processes, including federal loan programs.

  • Bring, build, and manage executive-level relationships with hyperscale energy procurement teams (e.g., Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon), data center developers/colocation providers, and other large-load customers.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with western utilities and balancing authorities, and navigate utility-partnered structures (green tariffs, clean transition tariffs, sleeved PPAs) where a direct bilateral is not the optimal path.

  • Own the full commercial lifecycle: opportunity identification, qualification, proposal development, pricing strategy (in partnership with finance), RFP responses, term sheet negotiation, and contract execution.

  • Partner with Development, Finance, and Legal to ensure commercial terms align with project economics, interconnection realities, delivery timelines, and bankability requirements; structure risk allocation (credit, delivery, curtailment, delay) with financing outcomes in mind.

  • Represent Hexagon at industry conferences, customer summits, and strategic forums to build market visibility for the platform.

  • Monitor power market, regulatory, and policy developments across WECC that affect data center load growth, clean firm power procurement, and offtake structures; translate them into an actionable origination strategy.

  • Operate autonomously with limited oversight, providing regular pipeline reporting and deal transparency to the CCO and executive team.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 8–12+ years in power origination, energy marketing, structured transactions, or corporate energy procurement, with a demonstrated record of closing complex, long-tenor energy transactions.

  • Established, actionable relationships with hyperscale and/or data center energy procurement organizations. This is a threshold requirement, not a preference.

  • Deep understanding of western U.S. power markets (WECC), wholesale market mechanics, interconnection processes, and utility procurement pathways.

  • Expert-level fluency in offtake structuring: physical and virtual PPAs, tolling, capacity contracts, hedges, and emerging clean firm structures; strong instincts for risk allocation and creditworthiness.

  • Experience structuring commercial arrangements that have supported project financing, tax equity, or corporate capital raises; understanding of what lenders and investors require of offtake instruments.

  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and executive presence; comfortable leading discussions with tenured/senior counterparties and investors.

  • Self-starter with proven ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-moving development organization.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, finance, or related field.

  • Willingness to travel regularly (est. 25%) for customer and internal meetings.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Direct experience with clean firm / 24/7 carbon-free technologies (geothermal, nuclear, long-duration storage) or first-of-a-kind energy technologies.

  • Prior experience at a hyperscale energy team, IPP, utility (commercial side), or PE/growth-backed developer.

  • Familiarity with behind-the-meter and islanded/partially-islanded offtake arrangements for data center load.

  • Experience with DOE programs (LPO/EDF, FOAs) and how federal financing interacts with offtake requirements.

  • Existing relationships with western utilities and balancing authorities (e.g., BPA, PacifiCorp, NV Energy, Idaho Power).

  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, or MS).
