Manager of Geospatial Strategy
Ryan is the Manager of Geospatial Strategy at Hexagon. In this position, he leads and enhances Hexagon’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and prospecting strategy. He takes a strategic, collaborative, and innovative approach to drive the development and application of geospatial technologies to support various teams and business functions.
Ryan oversees the GIS team, ensuring the effective management of geospatial systems, operations, and their integration within the company. A critical aspect of his role involves optimizing GIS workflows, particularly focusing on transitioning from desktop geoprocessing to web-based platforms. Ryan works closely with the Engineering, Commercial, Strategy, and Development teams to support prospecting and development-specific GIS tasks. Additionally, he manages relationships with third-party geospatial data vendors to ensure access to high-quality data and services.
He oversees the interdepartmental "Leads & Letters" team, building and executing processes to identify new land positions. Through his GIS and market expertise, he develops and refines Hexagon’s strategy for new site acquisition. He serves as a key source of information on prospecting and campaign status, providing transparency and maintaining support materials to facilitate the achievement of market objectives.
He works closely with the Strategic and Commercial teams at Hexagon to identify new markets, with particular focus on electric cooperatives and distributed/community solar opportunities. This responsibility includes bridging the gap between strategic considerations and prospecting tactics, ensuring that new market initiatives are grounded in robust geospatial analysis.
Ryan has led the research into new markets and geophysical characteristics for geothermal projects, strategizing the rollout of campaigns and development initiatives. This includes planning team expansion and prioritizing advancement and development within the geothermal portfolio.
Ryan has 7 years of professional GIS experience. He holds an Advanced Certification in ESRI's ArcPro and ArcGIS software suite through the University of Richmond, and graduated from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelors of Science in Geology (focusing on structural geology) and History.
