OWEN CALLAHAN
Senior Geoscientist
Owen Callahan, PhD, is a Senior Geoscientist at Hexagon Energy, where he evaluates geothermal energy plays, prospects, and projects in the western US.
He has specialized in geothermal energy research and development for over 15 years, contributing to flagship enhanced geothermal system (EGS) projects at the world’s largest geothermal field in The Geysers, California, superhot rock (SHR) projects at Newberry Volcano, Oregon, and additional locations across the Great Basin and Cascades. His academic work examined interactions between hydrothermal fluids and rock properties, from deeply buried Precambrian basement rocks to modern hot spring deposits. He also serves as a member of the nonprofit Hotrock Energy Research Organization, which promotes responsible geothermal development in the Pacific Northwest.
In addition to his professional and research experience, Owen holds advanced degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, Western Washington University, and Hampshire College. He is a licensed geologist, as well as a certified drone pilot and thermographer, with expertise in thermal mapping of hot springs.
