Pitt County Approves Stokestown Solar
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners has given the green light to Stokestown Solar, Hexagon Energy’s proposed 80 MW solar project with 30 MW of battery storage. The approval includes conditional zoning, ensuring the project will meet necessary community standards, including protective setbacks, vegetative buffers, and funding for ADA-compliant park improvements in the Town of Grifton.
We hope Stokestown Solar will be selected in Duke Energy's 2025 Solar and Storage RFP, as we’ll submit our proposal in September 2025. Shortlist announcements are expected in January 2026, and final selections are expected in May 2026.
Beyond clean energy, this project represents a significant economic opportunity for Pitt County. Over its lifetime, Stokestown Solar is projected to generate more than $3.2 million in new county tax revenue, a substantial increase from the current $90,000 the current land use would create today.
With integrated battery storage to support grid reliability, Stokestown Solar is more than just a solar project; it invests in Pitt County's economic future.
