Exploration Geologist

POSITION SUMMARY

Hexagon Energy, a clean energy development company currently specializing in geothermal, solar, and battery energy storage projects, is seeking an Exploration Geologist to support its geothermal development efforts.

As an Exploration Geologist, you will support Hexagon’s geothermal development efforts by sourcing, integrating, and interpreting geologic, geophysical, geomechanical, and geochemical data to model geothermal resource potential. You will play a critical role in advancing the development of Hexagon Energy’s geothermal energy portfolio.

Candidates must be process and results-oriented, highly organized, and passionate about the type of work Hexagon performs. The ability to balance multiple tasks and manage your time appropriately is critical for success. This is a full-time position.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to de-risk potential geothermal resources and assess their viability

  • Create and manage geothermal resource models for geothermal projects by utilizing geologic and engineering principles

  • Quantify expected energy output for geothermal projects

  • Coordinate the execution of geologic, geophysical, geomechanical, and geophysical data collection

  • Interpret and integrate results from pre-existing available data, as well as site-specific geologic, geophysical, geomechanical, and geophysical studies

  • Be directly involved in the site origination process by augmenting large-scale suitability modeling efforts

  • Develop conceptual well design models specific to each site

  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to team members, stakeholders, and industry partners

  • Assist the development team in their site origination efforts by providing supporting geothermal resource data

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Highly organized

  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Broad technical understanding of industry and major industry drivers

  • Communication skills-ability to converse with laymen, elected officials, and experts with equal ease

  • Courage to address difficult items first rather than burying them

  • “Jack of all trades”

  • Manage risk: recognize, identify, and resolve threats to your project in a timely fashion

  • Comfort with speaking to large audiences and the press

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Applicants with at least a Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geomechanics, Geochemistry, Numerical Modeling, or Well Engineering are preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Strong background in geology, geophysics, and numerical modeling

  • Experience with reservoir modeling software

  • Knowledge of geothermal energy systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to interpret magnetotelluric (MT), seismic, geochemical, gravity-magnetic, well log, structural, and stress regime data

  • Experience with QGIS or ArcGIS software suite

  • Experience with Seequent software suite, particularly Oasis Montaj and Leapfrog, or similar industry standard geovisualization software

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with industry relevant machine-learning approaches

  • Familiarity with Python

  • Drone flying experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively/collaboratively in dynamic, cross-functional teams and influence others through work ethic and positive attitude to accomplish stretch goals

  • Working knowledge and technical understanding of renewable energy, energy markets, and financial models
