Hexagon Energy, a renewable energy project development company specializing in solar, wind, wave, biomass, and storage projects, is seeking a Development Engineer to support its portfolio of solar and wind energy projects. The Development Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for projects from origination to late stage development (sales support). The Development Engineer will report directly to the Development Engineering Manager and work closely with Project Developers and Project Managers as a liaison between the Hexagon Energy development team and the technical disciplines involved in designing, permitting, and constructing renewable energy projects.
Candidates must demonstrate a keen interest in and knowledge of the renewable energy industry. The ideal candidate's career history should demonstrate the ability to efficiently and effectively balance multiple projects in a deadline driven, team-oriented environment. Attention to detail (accuracy and thoroughness) is a must.
Ideal candidates will have 2-3 years of renewable energy or equivalent industry experience. Experience with battery storage is a plus.
Roles & Responsibilities
RFP response support
Develop constraints maps (GIS and CAD)
Production estimates (PVSyst and SAM)
Interconnection application management (utility POC, drafting IRs, preliminary interconnection feedback, reviewing and assessing studies, and GIAs)
Bidding and managing outside environmental and engineering consultants
Reviewing, assessing, clarifying results of preliminary studies (CIA, ESA phase I, EA, wetlands, geotech, ALTA, T/E species, CR, etc.) and identifying risks or design constraints.
POC with federal, state, and local agencies (SHPO, DEQ, USACOE, building inspector, etc.)
Support development team with local, state, and federal permits
Assist project team with other projects on an ad-hoc basis
Travel requirement - up to 50%, often on short notice
Broad technical understanding of overall project requirements
Communication skills-ability to distill technical information to layperson
Ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize needs with timely responses
Creative problem solving
Technical risk identification at all stages of development
Ability to interpret construction drawings and review project documentation for technical requirements
Understanding of the relevant electrical codes, building codes, and permitting procedures for energy projects
Experience with Google SketchUp and AutoCAD
Familiarity with PV Syst, SAM, and/or First Solar Plant Predict production modeling software
Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Education & Additional Certifications
Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Mechanical) are preferred. Other quantitative-focused majors will be considered.
