Josh Kinney

Senior Transmissions planning engineer

Josh is a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer for Hexagon Energy. He is responsible for working directly with Hexagon’s development team to strategically identify ideal points of interconnection across the US. He models power flow cases to reflect the continuous changes of RTO’s and ISO’s interconnection queues. Additionally, he performs injection and deliverability studies to identify maximum injection capability and potential transmission system overloads, in order to optimize project size and cost allocation. He specializes in NYISO.

Prior to Hexagon, Josh spent a year with FastGrid and three years with Timmons Group as a consultant. He worked directly with developers to prepare power flow models and perform injection studies to identify potential transmission system upgrades. Additionally, he performed reactive power studies, ensuring projects met FERC order number 827’s reactive power requirements. He worked with developers to provide knowledge, guidance, and create strategies based on the project’s location for utility scale interconnections. He prepared interconnection applications for wind, solar, and battery storage projects in all major RTO’s and ISO’s.

Josh holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University with a focus in Renewable Energy.
