Dave Stoner

Acting Chief Development Officer

Dave is the acting Chief Development Officer for Hexagon Energy. In this capacity, he is responsible for the development of Hexagon’s portfolio of renewable energy projects across the US. Dave has extensive experience in developing independent power projects, having managed the successful development to completion of over 3000 MW of independent power projects fueled by solar, wind, natural gas, and coal since the early 1990s.

Dave joined Hexagon Energy at its inception in July 2015. He concurrently manages and is principal of his own consulting business to the energy industry, Stoner Power Consulting, LLC. In this capacity he provides strategic, project development, and M&A services to various clients in the independent power industry primarily related to solar, wind, and energy storage projects. Dave’s expertise includes development of market strategies, project siting, wind and solar resources assessment, licensing, power purchase agreement negations, interconnections studies, equipment procurement and EPC contractor selection, partner and M&A negotiations, and project financing. Prior to forming his own consulting firm and joining Hexagon, he lead development teams and directed development of numerous solar, wind, gas-fired, coal-fired, biomass, and IGCC generation projects in the following roles:

  • Senior Vice President-Development with Element Power,
  • Senior Vice President-Development with BP Alternative Energy,
  • Director Development with Greenlight Energy,
  • Vice President-Development with Newport Generation Ventures, Inc.,
  • Vice President and Managing Director for Entergy in Europe, and
  • Vice President-Development of Westmoreland Energy, Inc.

David started his career in the energy business with Pennsylvania Power and Light Company in the early 1980s. He received a B.S. degree in environmental management from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983. Dave also earned a M.S. degree in civil engineering from Lehigh University in 1989.
